Since the beginning of the Inuit Community Council, now officially
known as the Northern Village of Kuujjuaq, there have been several
programs that have been ongoing in the community. The oldest program
that has been in operation is the Hunters
Support Program which was established in the 1970’s when
the Inuit Community Council was created.
Additional programs such as Survival
Skills, the Kuujjuaq
Youth Camp, Junior
Rangers Program, Youth
Centre, Daily
Youth Camp, and the Elders
House have been successfully operating. (To view the individual
descriptions of the programs click on any one of the links.)

As the community grows, there are more and more programs and projects
that are being created to suit the needs of the citizens of Kuujjuaq.
Among the ongoing projects, the outdoor recreational infrastructures
are continually being updated. Currently, Kuujjuaq has an outdoor
skating rink which is located behind the municipal office. There
are plans to increase this number and place them in different locations
around the community where there will be half-pipe ramps installed
for both summer and winter uses, particularly aimed for those amateur
skate boarders or snow boarders. One of the recently completed projects
is an outdoor basketball court which was added onto one of the four
existing parks in the village in the summer of 2004.
